Grade 3 AC Joint Separation
On Sunday I met a deer at 23mph which resulted in a grade 3 AC joint separation. I am 85% sure that I'll go the surgical vs. the non-surgical route. My ortho said that given the recency of the injury, I'm a good candidate for an AC repair, which would suture my existing tendons to my clavicle. However, I have scheduling issues and things that I'd like to do over the next 6 weeks. If I postpone surgery for 6+ weeks, I'm most likely looking at a reconstruction instead of a repair, as my tendons will no longer be usable. Does anyone in the haus have knowledge of the advisability of doing a repair vs. reconstruction? If there is a difference, how big of a difference? I'm thinking in terms of surgical success, length of recovery, and long term prognosis. Thanks!
