HIM RR #! Question

I have my first HIM RR this weekend. What is recommended pacing strategy for bike ? Do you go right to goal watts or stay in gear 1 for some period of time ?

  • There's some really good race execution resources on the train map, which address bike execution and race rehearsals.  In addition, there's a good podcast discussing racing the HIM distance.  I'd definitely recommend reviewing all those resources.

For the race itself, you're going to be going in gear 1 (you do have your power gears calculated, yes?) for the first 30 minutes or so, then bumping into gear 2 for the bulk of the ride.  The RR should mimic that.

  • Thanks Mike. I've looked at all the available stuff. The only hole I had was pacing on bike. The IM protocol is very detailed, but I haven't seen the same level of detail for HIM.
    Gears are locked and loaded.
  • William- we usually encourage folks to write down their race execution plan and post it up here in the forums for the team to help evaluate & give feedback before your Race Simulation.  I don't think we've done much of this in the new 3.0 forum, so I'm providing you a few links below to examples back in the 2.0 forum to give you an idea:

    http://www.endurancenation.us/en_fo...php?t=7574

I know it may seem like a lot of administrative work- but the folks who go through this process find it VERY helpful!  It's really how we work out a lot of bugs and learn from each other in the process.  So I encourage you to take the time to post your race rehearsal plan and solicit feedback from folks in da hause!

I think you'll find that level of detail in the HIM podcast on the podcast page, as well as in the bike execution podcast under race execution in the Train Map.  Good luck with the RR!
