IM Mont Tremblant Information Wanted...

Folks, I have to do a pre-race webinar for Mont Tremblant, and I have never been there. So I need some details on how the course breaks down, Swim / Bike / Run. If you have any similar items to other races (the bike is just like XXXXXX) that will help me as I make my points...please, any / all info is welcome. Please post it here so I can make sure what I create for the Team is quality!!!

I think this blogger did a good write-up of the bike course after she reconned it.

  • Swim... very easy and straight forward... I would have warned about the mass start issues from last year but since its wave start this year there should be no problem.

Bike file from the HIM 2013... They made some minor changes to the bike course (for the better) over last year so instead of posting last years full you can just double this.

I have raced the HIM twice and the IM once , all in very low wind conditions so unfortunately no info/data/advice for a possible high wind day. The course is much faster than it looks due to nice smooth pavement almost thru out. Its almost always rolling hills, false flats , with 2 area's of difficulty , the first being the long gradual climbs out on 117 , the second being the out and back section to Lac Superior which is short steep stair step type climbs with short area's of flats to recover. On loop one miles 6.3-9.3 is a good steady climb , followed by a 1.5 mile 40mph straight descent ,miles 11-31 is rolling hills and false flats, followed by the 1.5 steady climb, and the 3 mile rolling descent , rolling hills again until around mile 45 where you start the stair step climbs to Lac Superior about 5 miles up then reverse for 5 mile descent.

NOTE: IMO the Lac Superior out and back is the only section that really needs to be ridden or previewed in advance before the race to see the stair-step climbs .... also to preview the descent which is fast with turns but nice smooth pavement... Since this section is an out and back it can be crowded... This is also the section that demands the most respect and discipline while riding the first loop since you will have to do it again in 56 more miles.... EN execution is a must.

The Run: File from the HIM 2013 X2 and your all set... http://connect.garmin.com/activity/332135481

First 2 miles mostly uphill with a couple short steep section, followed by 7 miles easy flattish with alot on a flat gravel path , after that you reverse the hills that you did at the beginning except now your going downhill on the steepest sections , they take you UP thru the village , then back down ONLY to do the course again... Really a nice run course , just watch those short steep hills.... The long out and back on the gravel section can be very hot if sunny and no wind.... Coming back thru the village in the finishing chute is awesome ENJOY those crowds....

Highly recommend going back for midnight if you can make it... This was the only IM I was able/willing to go back to the finish at midnight and it was worth it!
  • Um...what Tim said.
  • yep, Tim articulated the course description perfectly. I would also add that the course compares somewhat to Muskoka 70.3 in that the front end is highway riding with a couple of gradual climbs and the last 30 or so km where the real climbing begins. Very similar courses.
  • Thanks so much everyone!
