A nice surprise waiting in Facebook's "Other" Folder
yesterday, i read a NY Times tech piece for Facebook users (http://tinyurl.com/lwgm5vh) and subsequently checked my "Other" folder as recommended by the article. Turns out I had a really cool message from a fellow IMCDA athlete waiting for me that I otherwise would have never seen:
"if you're the Mike who helped me up the hill toward the 19.65 mile mark on the 2nd loop of the CDA IM; been searching hi and low to thank you! It was because of your "we're running up this hill" statement and energy that propelled me to run most of the last 6-7 miles of the marathon allowing my overall time goal to be had. Hope you achieved your goal of running the whole way . It was a pleasure chatting with you up that darn hill; good luck on your next Ironman. Again, thank you Mike!"I'd encourage everyone to check their Other folder (located next to "Inbox" in the "Messages" screen) and see what they might have missed!

Friggin' Facebook, sooo stupid sometimes. Here's a couple fun ones:
Hi Rich,
Hope you're going well. We don't know each other. I'm a tri coach based in QC Canada.
I was wondering if you could point me toward some doc that would explain the rational behind your proposal that the TSS for an IM bike like shouldn't go over 300TSS.
Thanks!
Charles

Rich, thanks for relinquishing your spot yesterday. I will make good use of it. Good luck with the run training. I am planning on doing IM Wisconsin again in 2012 and celebrating in Kona a month later. Let me know when I can buy you a beer or a glass of wheat grass and carrot juice!

Dear Rich,
My name is Alison Roeske and I write features for Monrovia's Patch.com website. The editor likes me to find interesting people in Monrovia to write about, and when I interviewed Jon Pedder for an article earlier this year, he recommended that I contact you. Would you be interested in letting me write a story about you and your work? If so, please let me know and maybe we can set up a time to do an interview. Thanks, and hope to hear from you soon!

Oh, and I didn't know there was an "other" folder either!
Paul, will do, though that message was 18mo old...dunno if their interested any more or if this lady is even still around . I'll contact them. I live in a neat little town in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains, would be fun to be featured.
Jon Pedder, the guy she wrote about, was my training partner and best friend from ~'00-04. Much of the stoopid shit we don't have you do was done by JP and I in those years . But he went 9:55 at IMCDA'03 and qualified for Kona, 3yrs after quiting a 2 pack of cigs, pint of Crown Royal per day habit. He's a network systems guy and set up Crucible Fitness for me, back in the Dark Ages of triathlon coaching. He's since moved onto mountaineering and is the VP of the local volunteer search and rescue team. I've been on him for several years to get back into the IM game, maybe in a few years for his 50th. Would be fun to get the band back together
