Assistance with "Crack Pipe" needed

Got your attention with that topic, huh? So I just got a new bike (pics in the works) and I got the back wheel aero jackets so I need the "crack pipe" adapter to inflate the rear tire. Problem is, it takes 2 people. One to hold it on the stem just right and another to pump. Not ideal. Any tricks I should be aware of? Do I need a different adapter? I got the one from Wheelbuilder so it should work, maybe it is operator error?

  • I have the same problem. Darn thing doesn't stick on even with a threaded stem.
  • I've been reading some random threads on the Internet on this and it seems most folks reco a Hirame adapter but it is like $50. I might need to do it cuz not being able to pump solo sucks.
  • You can use a regular pump with the wheelcover. Just kind of bend the wheelcover out a bit. Can also make the key hole a bit larger.
  • I use a regular pump with my aero jacket, BUT beware as I've broken the plastic aero jacket, so it's got a crack from "bending" it too much.
  • Stem of the wheel on the top so you can reach it, then instead of using both hands on the pump I lower my chest onto the pump handle so I use body weight to push the pump. As you get to the end, the free hand may need to help pull on the base of the pump to compress the handle into your chest. It looks funny if others are watching and takes practice. I'm also not sure how a female would potentially need to modify placement of the handle across the chest. It's laughable but works for me.
