Competing with Tim: A crash report by coach Patrick
When I got the message the other day from Tim about his crash, I felt pretty bad. As many of you know he's so competitive and his goals for himself and his year are very aggressive. That's just the way he rolls. I thought the nice thing would be to call to let him know that the team stands behind him.
But then I quickly realized that Tim was doing something far more sinister. Not content with Kona, it's clear that he's actually mounting an attack in a desperate attempt to dethrone me as the official crash king of endurance nation.
I knew I had to act quickly, in order to make things right in the world.

The volume didnt work for me on the video!
Heal up you guys.
No sound here either, but I'm guessing broken arm? Hope you recover quickly. Peeps, be careful out there!
Wow, sorry about your crash. Heal up quick P!
Maybe we need a set of official EN training wheels for the king of the crashes?
There's no way it'll come back together on its own, so its surgery for me on July 31. I'll be under the weather for a bit and him some serious pain meds, but I will still be here. So it looks like serious downtime through the end of August.
Then I will have 8 weeks to get ready for Florida. Should be an interesting test. :-)
For those of you asking, I was not going up, this year. As many of you probably remember, I actually have to qualify to go there. :-) I have been enjoying my summer so far, or rather, HAD been enjoying my summer until Saturday.
Thanks for all your support, and stay tuned for more updates!
Thanks for the update. Been on the edge of my seat waiting for the story and hoping it would be "not that bad" .... Sounds like it is and that is a major bummer... I hear your pain comments since I have just about had enough.... Don't worry , you can have the title , we'll be back , and we will be a force to be reckoned with by the time IMFL gets here.... Surgery in the AM for me!
Tim,
D'oh, d'oh, d'oh!!!
In normal circumstances I'd suggest Tim and Coah P arm-wrestle for the Crash King title. But with the broken collarbones and pain meds and all.... maybe some other contest? Who can poop first off the pain meds? Who is the most/least irritating to their spouses in recovery? Who doesn't pull their own stitches?
Seriously guys, be well and keep it SAFE out there!
Related - if you start to have any nerve issues in your shoulder - ie like a blocked nerves and or your shoulder muscles are not working properly, let me know. I had these issues when I broke my collar bone (came to light about 4 months after my crash when I still couldn't move my shoulder well) and have done a ton of research and know the top physicians in the country. Hopefully you won't have this issue - your x-ray looked like a pretty clean break...
Enjoy your recovery and hope you still make it out to IMWis....
Rest up and come back stronger!
