whistler canada iron wheel setup

I normally run a wheelcover on the back with my Mavic Cosmic Carbon SLs.    Just got a Flo90 front.      So this is my flat race setup.

just rode the course this weekend on this setup.    hilly.   short and long hills.   scary long hills on poor road surface.   think I am going to lose the wheelcover.    and put on the Mavic back on the front.   So just the Mavics front and back.      no wheelcover.   these are light and 52mm.

Upside is lighter setup.     Faster spin up going uphill, especially losing the heavy wheelcover.       Less chance of harmonic high speed wobbles with less force from car wind buffeting.    Etc.

Downside is losing less than a minute on the flat 30 mile bit.          Can't think of any other significant downsides.     Uphill just need the lightest setup.       I don't want to be more aero on the downhills because, on this course, more often than not, I am trying to keep the speed down and it is easy to get up above 33 mph.

Reasonable ???

p.s.   I am an M.D.     family physician.      But my B.S. is in Aerospace Engineering.        Give me some good arguments if you think my thinking is flawed.   image
