patti's new bike test
I did not get to do hardly any of the 'get fast' stuff for past few weeks due to recovery. It took a while but I just needed to take a break. I'm still not 100% but Restwise says I'm okay. (bouncing between 70 and 90 most days)
so, I'm off to do Alcatraz swim this weekend and did not do my bike test yet.
1. Should I do this test when I return? I'm thinking yes. I'm still dealing with some issues but I did a swim, run and spin yesterday to get some of my much needed workouts in. Today is rest and tomorrow is travel. then 60 degree whether instead of this nasty 101 degrees in Austin.

my pace was awesome! 1:53 per 100 m, but my sighting was awful!
it was just a swim, not a race... my form was good... and the waves and choppiness were never an issue. I got turned around however, at the start due to current but I had great fun! I learned a lot! I was one of the first half in the group to reach shore and I WAS the oldest one out there!
2 lessons
1. wear glide on my neck as the neoprene cap is very tough on the skin!
2. it is impossible to judge current without outside assistance/knowledge. there were about 20 of us. 3 got pulled out due to 'freaking out' on the current at the start (we were warned that it would turn us around, and many of us did get turned around towards the island at the start...it is not possible to see other green caps when there are only a small number of folks and the water is murky due to the silt in the water from mountain run off)
3 of the group were training for other swims (English Channel and such) and did not wear wet suit.... all women.
none of the prisoners at Alcatraz ever made it to shore! (alive, that is!) the prisoners started on the wrong end of the island where the undertow is significant! and they had no opportunity to 'work out' while in prison and no wet suit.
