I'd sort of like to punch USAT (or WTC) in the face

Due to either USAT or WTC needing to have a current membership that postdates an Ironman race you end up with these problems.  Anyone else end up with an extra membership, which I'm certain is against the rules somehow.

I had to send this one to USAT:

Hello,

When I registered for Ironman Couer d'Alene last month I had to renew my membership because my USAT membership expired on May 31, 2014 and before Ironman Couer d'Alene on June 29, 2014. Ironman won't let you register unless you have a valid membership that postdates the race.  So I paid for the additional year for what I thought was my current USAT membership.

I just received my new card in the mail and it was a new membership and not a renewal.  My current USAT member # is 5XXXX7 and the additional year should have extended my membership until May 31, 2015.  Instead I received a whole new membership (#2XXXXXXXX1) that expires on July 31, 2014.  Obviously, that doesn't do much of anything for me as I paid for a year and only got two months.

All I need is for an additional year to be added to my current membership so that it reflects an expiration date of 05/31/2015.  The new membership can be deleted or whatever as I have no need for it.

Thanks for the assistance,

Bob

  • The whole extension issue is due to the incestuous relationship between USAT and WTC. However, I would guess that USAT is to blame for giving you a separate membership. That is downright stupid and I would e-mail them daily and call them weekly until it was fixed. Meanwhile, I better extend my USAT membership before I sign up for the next one. I certainly don't want to do it as part of the WTC registration process ... the bastards!
  • I rec'd an email this morning and it got fixed. They need to review their procedures on that one. Moral of the story is to update your membership through USAT's website and not through Active.
  • Ha, ha. I am actually thinking of doing Wisconsin next month and went to their website today to extend my membership...guess what? They turned off the function due to technical problems. Obviously they had/have a glitch.
  • This just happened to me too when I registered for REV3 Quassy.   I think it is a USAT problem alone.   Very frustrating!
  • Bob, maybe you should play your Special Agent card! image

  • Proudly not a USAT member since about 2005
  • I think this was a mistake by the renewal group at USAT and not malicious.

    That being said ...

    RANT:

So I signed up for Rev 3 Quassy 2013 last year and they asked the same of me, I had to renew my membership. Heres' the rub, I always bring my USAT card with me, because I know it's needed, and I keep it on my keychain. However ASKING PEOPLE TO PROVIDE A USAT CARD on a race that YOU REQUIRED REQUIRED THEM TO BE CURRENT FOR WHEN THEY REGISTERED and when people don't have it with them you charge them a single day fee is just bad form! I had a friend forget his card and they said he could look it up on his smart phone, which he didn't have with him, eventually they reluctantly provided him with a computer, but, why require it when it was necessary to have it in order to register for the event!

Important, REMEMBER, most of the PEOPLE WORKING at the USAT COUNTERS ARE VOLUNTEERS (there is probably at least one official USAT person there), so BE NICE TO THEM!

    :END RANT
  • Same happened to me when I registered for ITU Worlds. I ended up with no ranking in USAT for a while as someone had to merge my data from the two accounts back into one, then change my membership dates. Grrrrrrr!
  • I second what Cary's comment they are just volunteers but it is very irritating
  • How do you get into races if you are not a USAT member?

I buy the one day insurance. And, no, I don't care if I end up paying more than I would as an annual member.
