Jenn Eckert's Macro Thread

Hi Rich,

Looking over the next few weeks.  On week 15 there is a RR and it suggests a flat course.  There aren't many 6 hour flat courses in Idaho.  I have a few options but they all include some climbs, some shorter than others, or a hilly/rollers (friend says it's a good Kona training course).  Should I make any adjustments to time or just suck it up and ride the least hilly course I can find... (now that I write this, the ? seems kinda stoopid!)

Also, did my 5k Run test today.  I'm at 6500 feet so I was not optimistic which was being a little pessimistic.  As I thought, my vDot did not increase but went down by 1 point.  (my last test was slower a bit due to a 25 degree temperature jump).  Should I continue my training with the new paces or stick with the old?  (ex: z1 was 11;32 now it's 11:48)  I know we have a +/- 5 sec and I've adhered to that in this altitude.

Thanks Rich!

Jenn

Rolling, with some climbs (nothing super crazy) would be good for you but I'd limit the ride to 6.5hrs. That is, no point in riding 112 if 112 has you out there crazy long, due to the nature of the terrain. Don't get all wrapped up in the 112 number.

Just train with the "old" numbers. You'll be fine.

    Thanks Rich!

  • Hey Rich, Before I ask the question, I'm gonna lay the ground info...I'm in Idaho and am planning on traveling back to Sacramento on the 4 or 5th of August and then fly out for Tremblant on the 16th. I wanted to see what training was like for those weeks so I could plan ahead...Holy crapola!!! Week 15 is camp week on July 11-17 with big days on Fri/Sat/Sun. Then on week 18 (8/1 to 8/7, and the week I'm traveling home) it's a HUGE weekend with 2x112 plus a 56 and long run.

How should I handle this? I was thinking of moving week 18 workout to July 29, 30, 31, but that puts it only 2 weeks post Week 15. I don't want to put it out as it's to close to race week and I'm going from hi 70's to probably 100 degree temps in Sacto. Plus I don't know what my recovery would be like after week 15 as I'm "older"!

So...what does the wise man suggest?

You'll be fine to do wk18 in wk17 vs 18. And see our guidance in that wk18 week. You may choose to do 112/100/56, or some other less beefy combination. Gotta be smart and modify things to fit you. Lastly, do what you can to avoid the heat as much as possible on those rides, or at least be very, very prepared for it. Good luck!
