Challenge Roth Accommodation

Hi all, was one of the lucky ones and am set for Roth 2014. Just wanted to know from those who have done it before any recommendations on where to stay and how soon to start looking?  Do most people stay in Roth itself or in Nuremburg and commute? Not too sure on a home-stay as we like our aircon and privacy but maybe an apartment could work?

Any advice and recommendations much appreciated.

Cheers

  • Kevin, I haven't done Roth, but would like to hear how you train for long rides and long runs in Dubai. When I was in Doha, I could barely run an hour outdoors early in the morning.
  • Hi Paul, yeah first summer here training this year and I can tell you it ain't easy. Right now thankfully I am on a break after 70.3 Austria before next seasons starts so nothing major going on. Will start up again in a few weeks though but hopefully temps have dropped a little by then (we were at 112F the other day). There are groups that are still riding long here right now - though they start around 4 or 4:30am to be done before too hot. For me I also find evening a little cooler as well (especially if you sleep in). It is amazing what the body gets used to also if you slowly build into it.

For Roth my plan is to split a bit between indoors and outdoors and do the evening/early morning thing as much as possible when outside. Thankfully April/May is still not too bad - at least wasn't this year, bricks get to be a little bit challenging though. June will be tough but then July will be tapering anyway. At least if it's a hot day in Roth I'll be well prepared image.
  • I don't think you can start early enough ... accomodations in Roth itself are limited. I stayed nearby in Schwaben at http://www.hotel-raab.de/hotel_raab/; it was a 10-min drive, nice enough, and private. Nurnburg, imho, would be a bit too far.

And if Roth falls during the World Cup again, expect late nights!
  • personally I think a home stay would be great.

just email the Roth folks right ???     they give priority to out of country folks, is my understanding.

  • Good luck Kevin. My longest ever run on a treadmill was at Doha (2 hrs), no way I could run long in the heat and stifling humidity. By contrast, I was in Iraq over the summer and you could easily run in the morning because the tempeartures would fall to 83 to 85 and the humidity was still pretty low. Roth sounds awesome...you will have a blast.
