Need Kona Plan

I won my age group at IMLP and signed up for Kona. I am signed up to participate in the Sprint Nationals next weekend in Wisconsin. I know I won't be able to race it well, but I've done Nationals and qualified the last four years. Anyway, I need to have a plan for recovery and IM on October 12. Can you help, please?

  • Kate,

    Congrats! Very simply:

    • Do whatever you want to do between now Nationals. That is, you don't need a training plan...you need to recover.
    • After Nationals let's circle back and talk about "what now" through Kona.
  • Thanks. I do understand that I am now in recovery mode. I haven't done a thing but eat and rest! But, that said, I would like to look ahead at what I will need to do, as I have a few things that will keep me pretty busy in September, like an out of town wedding. Wondering what you normally do for Kona training. I'll have 8.5 weeks after Nationals to prepare myself. Should I be planning on the long weekend rides leading in, as I did for IMLP?
  • OK, so I decided to skip Nationals on advice of my PT. Calf issue following IMLP. I have only swum and biked lightly since the race. No running. I do feel like I need a plan for Kona now, as I am more disciplined if I follow a schedule. .

Go ahead and load up the IM plan to end on Kona, but you'll need to listen to your body regarding your run and modify things as you feel from day to day. If you need more specific help you can always find Patrick in the Micro Forum. Congrats again on Kona and good luck!
