Quassy HIM or Oly

I won the Quassy 2013 Finish Line photo contest (thanks for everyone that voted!!) so I get free entry for 2014!  So now I need to decide whether to do the HIM or Oly.  Here's my situation:

- 2013 I have only done short course in an effort to get faster.

-2014 I will do short course + HIM, then planning on Placid in 2015 (which will include Quassy HIM in 2015 as prep)

- Early June is tough for me for a HIM since the Northeast weather can be unpredictable.  Would I have enough time to get in some reasonable long, hilly rides to prep for Quassy HIM?

- My weakness is hills, but I guess starting sooner than later to prep for IMLP 15 is a good thing?

- I have improved a lot over the years on the Quassy Oly course (3:37 this year) but I'm still slow and wonder if I could even do that course for the HIM!

Any help would be appreciated!

  • I did the Rev3 race in Maine last year (half ironman) and it is a great race. I actually prefer it to Quassy. If you're going to do Quassy again in 2015 then do Maine in 2014? Then again the Quassy in 2014 is another EN focus race, so there is that.
  • I'm def doing Quassy, it's just a matter of oly or HIM....
  • Okay - then do the half! I'm thinking you've been in this game long enough to give an earlish half ironman a shot! I've trained for it in upstate NY without weather issues for the last three years. It's a super hard course no doubt, but will make IMLP seem that much easier!
  • I signed up for the Oly. My first Ironman will be Lake Placid so I thought I would start with the Oly at Quassy then onto the Syracuse Half-Iron and finish up with IMLP.

  • I'm going to do the Half... If Rev3 ever calls me back to collect my "prize". image

    I'm skeered!
  • Switched into the Quassy half today. Skipping Syracuse before IMLP.

  • Good call I think, Larry.
