Help Wanted: WKO+ Screencast
Team,
It would be supagroovy if someone could step up to create a screencast for us. I'd do it, but I'm Windows and WKO+ on a Mac via Paralells. My machine is getting really funky when I fire it all up and I'm sure it would just lock up if I tried to do a screencast at the same time, assuming it would even work.
We use Screentoaster to create screencasts. Dead simple, even I could figure it out.
Here is my wishlist, what I think would be helpful to see:
- Download a workout file from a Powertap.
- Open/save that file in WKO+
- Talk about the basics in the Journal and Graphs, ie, this is where this is, that's where that other thing is, etc
- Create and name a range in a workout file
- From the athlete homepage, show how to create, change, or customize a graph. For example, change the bin size on the Power Distribution Chart, create a chart that graphs IF and TSS in 7 day increments, etc.
- How to change/update FTP
- Anything else you might find helpful for beginners but let's hold off the the PMC stuff for now.
Does WKO+ have videos and webinars archived on their site? Anything we can use?
Again, I'd to this myself but I'd likely need to find a local Windows machine to make that happen. Lets try this first.

Yes, the do. There are several vids here: http://home.trainingpeaks.com/videos.aspx
We should probably first review what is already available and maybe point to it in the Wiki? Then create the screencast for whatever we feel is missing

If there is interest, I'll do the same for Race Day Apollo. I'm officially moving over....Their version of the PMC chart and the methodoloy behind it sold me along with the abality to get good run/swim data.
Hayes - I am really interested in Race Day Apollo. I haven't checked it out too thoroughly yet, but what I have seen I really liked and have been considering making the move. I find the "users manual" for WKO+ uterly frustrating and after 8 months of using it am still having a hard time using it to the degree I would like to. Have you found it easier to use in general or just that the PMC and run/swim data are better?
I do find it more user friendly, however, I think having used WKO+ for a year+ helped get the feel for it. The user guide is very friendly. I'll do a compare and contrast in a few weeks when I've collected more data and have my model created.
Ok, I created post in the wiki for WKO but am not satisified with the videos they provide on their site. I'll schedule some time to roll my own for everyone. Thanks.
I hope I am not overstepping my bounds here, but if I can make a suggestion, the videos done with Screentoaster leave a bit to be desired.
They are:
A) not downloadable so you must be online the whole time you watch them
do not feature transport control (i.e. fast forward, rewind, scrub).
I can recommend several dedicated screencasting Apps for the Mac. Quicktime X included in 10.6 will even record the screen. I am happy to further help out with more information on this if you'd like to pursue other venues.
If you must use Screentoaster, then I would recommend making several short videos one for each subject rather than one long one that someone would need to watch all the way through each time just to see one particular section. I believe they do offer a download option only to the author of the video, and only immediately after creation.
thanks
