Satish week 18 HIM loss of mojo

Over the past 3 weeks training has been going well, good FTP test last week, great bike workouts. Running has been a bit slower as expected after my injury and layoff a few weeks ago. I have been swimming a lot. This week my knee has been bothering me a bit to the point where I cancelled yesterday's long run. I have also been struggling a bit in the pool despite 9000-10000m/week, and today ( friday) i am really tired. While I realize some of this is likely due to cumulative fatigue and the taper for rev3 Maine is just around the corner, I'm wondering if I'm at my limit for long course for this season, things just have not been a lot of fun the past couple of weeks.

I am going to take today ( Friday) completely off, then I will attempt the RR2 on Saturday, plus or minus the run depending on how my knee feels. Then Sunday off. I'm pretty sure if I take a couple of days easy the knee will improve but it won't be perfect, it's a chronic thing I'm going to address in the fall with some physio.

As of Monday I need to decide if I really want to travel down to Maine for the race ( I.e. start the HIM taper). As an alternate I have the option of doing a local Olympic next Sunday, then a local sprint the week after that to round off what has been so far a successful season. My long term plan for the fall is to try to get my running speed back to where it was a few years ago, possible with a 1/2 marathon goal at the end of October.

To sum up, I'm not sure if I really want to do the HIM , how bad is it to can it at this point andjust do the other races, and if so should I just insert the short course plan weeks in?

  • Satish, F-the weekend. Sometimes being smarter isn't about work, it's about not work, and I HEREBY GIVE YOU THE DON'T DO A FOOKING WORKOUT UNTIL MONDAY card. Rest is best....you need to ABSORB. Let's wait until Monday to make your decision, but for now, rest. PLEASE.
