sideaches

I'm sure i put this in the wrong place but..........I need help with prevention of the bloody sideache. I have ran for over 30 years and have never had so many as i have this year. Almost with every run. I have exhausted any answers. From breathing techniques, cadence, nutrition/water (or lack thereof).....And yes, typically if i am running faster, but even in zone 2 I will get em. Not typical for me until this year. What gives? What am i missing? Doing wrong? Help!!!!

  • Any help for Vicki on this?
  • Vicki ... Dont want to be an alarmist, but if this is new and you are over 45, I suggest you see an MD, and see if they recommend an ultrasound. Just to rule out something inside.

I'm an ob-gyn, and that's what I'd do if you walked into my office. Probably it would be normal, and then you can go back to fiddling with running related causes.
  • Vicki, As Al said get yourself checked out.

I'd offer a 3 -2 breathing technique. As in left foot, right foot, left foot inhale then right foot left foot exhale that keeps plenty O2 in your system and does a good job of slowing your HR too as well as avoiding side stitches.
  • I'm sorry. Thought i didn't have any responses..huh. ok...well being in the medical field myself, i wouldn't have thought medical-related. Great. Hey Al...can i blame this on my damn fibroids?! Ha! I have noticed that if i take longer strides, they tend to not happen or i can rid of them quicker. And this year i have quickened my cadence. Hmmm, has to be the breathing/step thing. My diaphragm is rebelling against this training now that i am in my uppppper 40's or one can hope....

  • Vivki ... I sent you a PM.(The little envelope @ the top of the page.)
  • Yes see doc. Get chest xray. Etc.
