Feedback on Race Day GPS Tracking Pdt

Hello,

I came across this product called My Athlete Live which is essentially a small GPS unit you wear on race day that allows your friends and family to track your real-time progress of location, speed, etc.  Supposed to help with meeting up with you at various points.

Does anyone have experience with the product?  Does it work well?  Is is heavy or cumbersome?  Supposed to 2.2 ounces.  I'm thinking about using it for IMWI.

Here's the link: http://www.myathletelive.com/

Thanks,

Chad

  • Wow, that looks really cool. This would take spectating to a whole new level. I was wondering when some entrepreneur would come up with this.
  • Chad,
I have used the product at 3 of the 4 IMs I have done -- the first at AZ in 2009, the last time was at KY in 2011. So, take what I am about to say with a grain of salt.....
If you are expecting "real-time" tracking [ similar to mapmyride's Live Track ] your family/friends will be disappointed. I would describe it as Near Real-time. It looks like the viewer interface has been updated (app based) as it used to be web page based. Which had issues with refresh rates and bandwidth.
That being said, I plan on renting another one for IMMoo next month. So, thanks for the reminder. image
  • Thanks Joe for the insight (and expectation setting).  Near real time will be great.  Sounds like you renting it coming up on 4x is a good endorsement.  Could you tell you were wearing it on the bike or run (bouncing on the race belt, etc.)?
