2014 race advice sought

Hi,

I hope to do IMMT next year.   I am already signed up for Rev3Quassy on June 1st.   Tomorrow a package deal goes on sale for IMMT and the MT 70.3 which is June 22nd.     The package makes sense because it is discounted and guarantees you a spot in the IM.  However, that would mean I would be doing 2 HIMs in the same month.  I was thinking I could treat Quassy as a training day (i.e. C race) and MT 70.3 as an A race.  Has anyone else done 2 HIMs in the same month?

Thoughts?  Thanks!

  • Leslie - have you read the blog posts and/or listened to the podcasts about doing a HIM while training for an IM? Rich has some great advice and talks about how big a "hole" you will punch into your IM training calendar when you do a HIM.

I have not done 2 HIM within a month. That being said, I would think you could do both....probably do pretty well at both as they are 3weeks apart. But why? Do you really want to pay $$$ just to do a SAG'ed "training day"?

If it were me, and I had already paid for Rev3, then I would forget about MT70.3. Go ride the course on one of your training rides, but skip the race.
  • Hey Joe, It was actually coach Rich who convinced me to do Quassy as a warm up to IMLP this year.  So, I guess he is not always against doing an HIM before an IM.  His point to me was that I could get burned out just training for an IM and putting an HIM 6 weeks before it would give me another race to focus on.   I was going to stick with that plan for 2014.  I thought Quassy did help me prepare for IMLP in many ways.

Thanks for your vote of confidence in my ability to do 2 HIMs in one month.  I'll sleep on this and figure it out in the morning if I want to attempt it.

Of course, now that Chatanooga was announced...it's turning my head!    Take care, L
