Friday evening I took an unscheduled 30 min run. Just felt like running in my flats. I tell you that this is a revelation to do once in a while. No trudging allowed at all! Anyway, that felt really good, even thought it wasn't super fast.
Saturday morning I took one of my few remaining opportunities to use the 50 m pool, and the family schedule meant that the ride got displaced to the afternoon. We're having a bit of a nasty heat wave, so it was pretty hot out there. I'm going to race Oly a week from today, so I decided in the heat and under circumstances to make it basically a 2 hour ABP ride...my quads always need a little more rest to recover from the FTP efforts than most people I think.
Today (Sunday), the family schedule [which included a late night last night] meant my long run has to be in the afternoon...that's not going to be super fun in the heat, but it was that or not sleep much... a cooler longer run would be nicer, but doing it with insufficient rest and starting the work week tired isn't such a good idea either.
@david - if this doesn't go away soon I might just do that. I have been advised (1) that it is usually temporary (2) that is why you don't adjust your bike fit unsupervised before a long ride. And (3) upgrade from the stock saddle is probably a good thing.
I ended up running today 11.5 mi in ~100 degree heat. As I told one of my kids, the first part was bad and the second half sucked. :-) Actually, it wasn't so totally horrible, but I took the whole thing pretty easy. The first 7-8 miles were sub 8:00, but I drifted down to around 8:20 ish for the last couple.
BTW, Kim...got it... your garmin shows up. 11 strokes/length... I'm trying to get mostly to 10, but I've been swimming LCM pretty much all summer, so we'll see where I am after Labor Day when the pool closes.
@Kim - read your race report. That is an awesome improvement in all categories! I understand about those coming in late to transition - I also try to get the end so I don't have issues with them. Enjoy the time off - you certainly have earned it this year. Got your speed in order and now for HIMs - great plan!
Today's run was a pleasant surprise. 3 X 1mi @Z4 and target time was 7:30. I did 7:17, 7:10: and 7:08. Guess that 1hr nap yesterday, 7hrs sleep last night , and self-massage and stretching did the trick. Maybe I should do this more often.
