William's Thinking about 2014 macro thread

Rich-

Thinking about next year.  Obviously you have to with the IM registrations...

I am definitely planning on running Boston.  (Just home my kid actually gets in.  He qualified, but not by much.)  That's April 21.  I am strongly considering IMOO again, which I assume will be Sept 7, possibly Sept 14.  If I counted right, that's a 20 week gap.  I don't do "throw away" marathons (what's the point of killing yourself if you're not going to put up a decent time), so I would give that a good hard effort.

Doing that pair, how would you set up a season?  I don't need a schedule down to the week, but just some broad thoughts.  Like maybe taking 2-3 weeks almost entirely off after Boston to recharge?  Would it make sense to have a Half in there somewhere (a distance I like), or is that too compressed?  Dates of those as far as I can tell:  KS is June 8. Muncie July 12, Racine July 20, SteelheadDells Aug 10, Pigman, Aug 17.  If I go for the IM, I want that to be the A-focus for the second half of season, not any HIM.

Thanks,  William

  • Boston --> IMWI is fine, you just sorta miss a quality OS...but you already know that.

Muncie or Racine would be better than KS, in my opinion. The others are too close to IMWI.
  • Yeah, you're right about the dates.

Last Boston I did, I managed to bike 2x week pretty consistently. So it won't be the greatest, but if I can do Boston with my kid, it'll be worth it. :-)

Your note hit me at kind of a mushy moment....IM exchange with him over the last hour across the country at college for his first semester talking about his independence and growing up. Sniff.
