2014 Race Schedule Need Help

So I thought that I had figured out my 2014 schedule:  Original idea:  Columbia Tri (Oly) May, Eagleman June, IM CHOO (September).  Problem is I can't seem to get Texas out of my mind.  Stupid race just won't go away.  Maybe my brain is still fried from the heat or I'm just not that smart to begin with.  Shoulde I race Texas and make it a TWO IM season?

  • Sounds like you want to do it. Assuming all the right boxes are checked ... Family support/agreement, no work conflicts, able to train adequately in Feb-Apr, etc...why not? This sport is all about dreams, and if this is yours, go for it.

As of this Nov, I'll have done 25 IMs in 13 yrs, and I' m still married, employed, and sane.
  • would be fun to push each other in texas.          i'lll have to swim draft this time.

i would like to do Eagleman someday.

  • Im thinking of Texas too! Same thing...dumb race won't go away! It would be my 2nd IM and I really want to do it even though I live in MN. (It's been on my list since it's inception). I see lots of cold climate peeps do it. The time of year is actually good for me and as Al said...all the boxes are checked! I just need to pull the trigger and sign up. Would be fun to "train" with others who have done it before, so I say, YES, do it again!! image Plus it is an EN focus race for 2014.
  • It is frusterating to me the 70.3 races sell out so fast. I'd also love to do Eagleman (and meet you in person John, since I missed you at the RnR half in DC). But the registration opens on Oct 1, I'm sure it'll be sold out in no time flat, and unfortunetely I can't commit that early. I'm pretty conviced I have a PB waiting for me at the HIM distance on that course.

As for Texas, I'm with Al, if the boxes are checked, go for it!
  • Whenever I start thinking about Texas, I just have to read about how much contact there is in the swim. And if that doesn't work, I just bring it up with wife who is absolutely uninterested in a trip to the Woodlands. But still...I wish you hadn't brought it up cause it has me thinking of Texas again!
  • Paul.   the swim is not any worse than any other.       each iron has its particular swim issues.   best side to start.   etc.       But of my nine irons, Texas does not stick out as one of the worst swims.
  • @ Robin - Yeah, it couldn't be worse than the funnell they put us through twice at Sweden; but back to point 2: Not only does she not want to go, I don't believe I would get a kitchen pass to go on my own since I am road kill afterwards and she is the mop up crew! When did Texas sell out for the 2013 event?
  • Waiting to see when and where the challenge race will be. It's either Texas or Challenge race
