BMCTM 01

Anyone have any experience and/or opinion on the BMCTM 01. I am in the market for a new bike since my P3 was thrashed by my Quarq magnet. Cervelo will not tell the LBS when the new P3 frames will be available. Not sure I want to wait around. The shop is suggesting the BMC.

  • I just bought one. Will get her out this week. Can tell you more then
  • The BMC TM01 is a beautiful bike. Had Trek not redesigned the SC, I may have gone a different direction and went with the BMC. The new Trek Speed Concept was way too super badass to pass up.

There have been some really unhappy TM01 owners because apparently the brakes suck. There's been lots of comments on ST about this issue. It wouldn't be a deal breaker by any stretch for me since braking is never a concern of mine. Just letting you know there's some complaints about the brakes and brake setup.
  • I heard about those also. Talking with my mechanic, he was not too concerned as the apparently work fine if installed correctly. The problem appears to lie in that if you change wheels then the brake calipers may be difficult to adjust if the wheels are of different widths. Fortunately, or unfortunately (we'll see), my Retul fit numbers made the BMC Tm01 the only bike that would me near perfectly as I apparently have weird stack/reach numbers. Had to go with the M/S.
  • I am looking at a BMC TM01 right now...may buy it tomorrow. I test rode the bike last Friday and hoped they would sell it over the weekend to take the decision off my plate, but this one fits my numbers...also M/S because my reach is short relative to my torso/leg length. My concern on the test ride was to see if the 58 degree fork lock prevented me from doing a cone turn...it did not. Kar-Ming is exactly correct. The brake issue is NOT about braking power. It is about setting the proper clearance when you change from a training wheel of width X to a race wheel of width Y. E.g., if you use regular training wheels but race on a Zipp Firecrest or something else that has a 25mm width then you will have to adjust the brakes. The fact also remains that undermount brakes suck on virtually every super bike. There are long threads of complaints about the undermount on Felt DA bikes, QR CD0.1, and others. Angling the cable down there just makes it difficult to get a pull, but again, it is the adjustment, not the braking power that is the complaint about the TM01.
  • That BMC sure looks sweet... Cervelo managed to find "one last P3 frame" in my size, so I will probably stick with Cervelo... ( BTW- Quarq is paying for 1/2 the frame!) . As much as I would love to upgrade to the BMC, I was not budgeting for it this year. image
  • I would love one - probably more realistic to get a TM02...
  • Kar-Ming,

Any feedback yet on the BMC?  I have to decide between it and the Cervelo P3 in the next couple of days. Only $400 more for the BMC

  • P3 is great ride. The frame changed the game is totally iconic. The new paint scheme this year is even better. I have a P3 and P5. They both awesome. My P3 is more configurable then the P5 because the P3 is mechanical and the P5 is Di2. As a result, I configured the P3 with a 32/11 cassette and shimano long cage derailleur. I am gonna race my P3 at Lake Tahoe in a few weeks.

    P3 is solid!
  • The new P3 is a more relaxed fit than the old P3C, while the TM01 is considered to be very aggressive. But the TM01 M/S size is a relaxed fit model unless you happen to have short reach. The superlatives of the old P3C do not belong to the new P3 which has been sized to fit a wider range of triathlete ability. So it's really a question of which fits you best and how you want to ride the bike. If you have aspirations of being a FOP rider, then some folks will argue that the new P3 is a step down. Cervelo quality control is not the best either although they have an excellent reputation for customer service. As to the new paint scheme people also have differing opinions and only YOURS matters. Good luck with your decision.

At Dino, must be hard to have to decide whether you are riding the new P3 or the new P5 at a race!
  • Jennifer,
Is it the new 2013 P3 or the old 2013 P3?

Regardless, I'd get the BMC assuming it fits.
  • It is the old P3... New P3 is not available as frame-only yet.
  • Agree with BOB. I have neither but if it fit ,I would get the BMC.

    Jennifer,

Is it the new 2013 P3 or the old 2013 P3?

Regardless, I'd get the BMC assuming it fits.

    Just curious, why?

  • Better integration of the components. The fact the new P3 still has cables and brakes fully exposed is just asinine. I also like the integrated cockpit design of the BMC whereas the P3 has a more traditional setup.
  • Sunday will be my 2nd race and first IM on my BMC TM01. I have it paired with Enve Smart System 8.9 wheels and G3 power tap.
  • Would love to hear your feedback Paul.  I have been on mine for about a month now and really like it so far. Seems to handle better than the P3.

  • Jennifer, I love the bike and feel like I have an excellent position. Very comfortable in my Adamo Attack saddle throughout the race. No chafing, no fidgeting. Super windy here but I was confident that I could handle cross winds up to 15 mph with the Enve 8.9s. Glad I brought them!
