Lap Pool??

Not sure if this qualifies under the Gear Forum or not but we are in the process of redesigning our back yard and my only request is trying to reconfigure our pool for laps.  After a couple of meetings with our architect, however, it looks like I max out at 45 feet.  Is it even worth it at that length?  I was thinking maybe it would do in a pinch with no pushing off the walls, focusing on drills, etc.?  I'm a crappy swimmer so looking for any help I can get.  Thanks!

  • Spend your $$$ on an Endless Pool instead. You're going to become a better swimmer, one who learns how to do flip turns and pushes off the wall aggressively. In a 15 yd pool, you'll end up getting less than 10 strokes/lap. With an endless pool, it's all swimming, all the time. You can get a low cost ($7000) version, which you put on the edge of your already existing pool:

  • I can't think of anything more boring than swimming laps in a 15y pool.

    I agree with Al.
  • I have an Endless Pool. Bought it on eBay, believe it or not... It's boring but dam efficient. I use an underwater mp3 player and it's not so bad. Agree to get one to put on the side of a shorter pool and it'll be great.

Let me know if you go that route and I can point you to how to modify the workouts...
  • Definitely an endless pool. When I win the lottery, I am going to have an indoor endless pool, a heated outdoor, 2 lane 25 yard pool, and a 2 lane 400m synthetic track right in my backyard. Yeah, that's the ticket!
  • Oh well, maybe I can workout a deal with my neighbor to build a shared 40M lap pool, that would be badass. Looking into the Endless Pool solution but my wife wants it "built in". Thanks for the advice.
  • The Endless Pool can be built in.
