Hi Coach,

Looking for advice regarding pacing (specifically %FTP and run pace) for upcoming non-standard distance triathlon on sep 29: 2k swim / 70k bike / 15k run. Run is my strength and bike the weakest link. Race experience (3 HIMs and 1 IM). I've used 80% of FTP in HIM and 69% in IM with good results. How much to push on the bike and in the run?

  • Andres, sounds like a fun event! Given your run strength, my first preference is that you bike at the 80%, but then we can have you run harder b/c you "only" have 9 miles to race on the run....so a steady bike sets up a faster-than-usual-run. Avoid the temptation to crush parts of the bike...we want fastest-sustainable-pace and then we can have you go from there!
