Is My Season Too Aggressive?
Hello everyone -
2010 will be an IM free year for me; but I've scheduled a field 70.3's and am wondering if they are stacked too closely which may prevent me from performing at peak performance.
My plan is Calif 70.3 in March (treat as a C-event), Wildflower in May (treat as a B-event), and then Vineman 70.3 in July as my A-event. Anyone believe I may be positioning myself to under achieve at Vineman?

My personal experience is that I'm back to regular training within 4 or 5 days max after a race with no lingering stiffness, soreness or other pains. For full IMs, it takes at least a month to get my mojo back, not so with the shorter distances. I'm usually highly motivated at the end of the race and ready to roll.

That seems like a great plan to me, plenty of time to recover in between.
Concur with all above. If you are experienced, and if you know that you recover fairly quickly then the 70.3 distance is no big deal. Coming from a running background, I rate triathlon difficulty by the run only. The swim and bike portions just don't beat you up. But they slow you down enough so that the run segment doesn't take you to the max like a true run only race would. So while a 70.3 is way harder than a half-marathon, it is easier to recover from than a half-marathon only. Seems like a paradox, but that's how it feels to me. I feel the same way about the full IM distance. But the major caveat remains that you must know your own body. Good luck at Vineman!
I just had a couple friends talk me into doing Cali70.3 in Oceanside this morning. I was thinking about racing Vineman also. When did you start your OS David?
I started Nov OS, which means I'm done March 20th and the race is the 27th. Not much FAR under the belt by then BUT if it's a C-race....Opinions?

Dave,
Perfectly fine. I've done the Cali/WF double many times, even back in the day when they were only about 2-3wks apart. No problems.
Vince -
I'm in the Nov OS also. Plan on staying with OS through 20 weeks, but will add a few longer rides and runs during the month of March, perhaps beginning towards 2nd half of Feb, as well as some swims in March. As you noticed, just a C-event for me so just looking to get in motion on March 27th.
David,
I will have to add the swimming sooner in early Feb but will take your advice. Thanks. I will flip a coin after talking with my wife about doing Oceanside...it's a cold swim with lousy tasting water.

dave-
think you will be fine! Oceanside was early season race for me last year and felt good to get out that "early" and race. Great way to jump into IMCDA 09 training. Not doing it this year because the crew is coming down to Wildflower. You will do great.
