Kirsten's 2014 Planning Macro Thread

Hi -

After my DNF at IMLP  I shut off the little voice in my head that immediately wanted to start planning my 2014 season. Instead I had fun racing Rev 3 Maine Oly and had a 10 minute improvement over last year's effort.  After discussing my disappointment with not finishing LP, my desire to give IM another shot, and general IM training craziness, I got the green light from my wonderful family to register for IMMT.

So.... I've got another shot at IM distance and I'm very excited about it and need some help with planning 2014. My thoughts so far:

1. Between now and the start of NOV OS - my goal is to focus on getting my eating/nutrition back on track and losing 10+ lbs, work on strength/core training, swim/bike/run purely for enjoyment w/o worrying about following a "plan".

2. Get back into structured training with NOV OS and then follow your recommended training plan from there.

2014 Events:

May 17, 2014: Local 5 mile road race

June 21, 2014: Local Sprint Tri that is one of my favorite and fun races.

August 17,2014: Ironman Mont Tremblant

What other events, if any, should I consider?

While the DNF wasn't fun it was a great learning experience and I know that I need to work a lot harder/smarter on the bike.  I am a slow rider - especially on hills.

Thanks for your help!

  • Sounds like a plan and always good to unplug your head. Notes:

    • Work on run frequency during that sorta downtime you have planned. Just run 4x per week, maybe 5, as any volume and intensity that works for you.
    • Quassy is a key race for the Team next season and the timing is good for IMMT athletes. Patrick is also doing camps on the IMLP and IMMT courses (see the Team Calendar under Resources above) so something for you to consider.
