Aero or not when racing in 95+ degrees?

Very soon I will be packing for my trip to Singapore (Aviva 70.3) and I have an aero dilemma related to the very hot & humid weather,,,

1) Should I use Bell Meteor, which is aero but not so vented, or standard road helmet?

2) Should I use Bontrager Speed bottle, or standard shape insulated bottles?

I'm a big aero fan but my gut feeling for this one is to go with the standard equipment and keep cool,,,

(To be honest, coming from NA Winter to 95 degrees and 90% humidity, makes me pretty nervous

  • Tomer, I would reach out to Cort Prois, just qualified for Kona at a very hot IM.

The helmet thing is very individual.

I would go with the aerobottle, as it will make it much easier for you to drink often. The insulated bottles will be warm in minutes, no matter what you do, and they are $$$ to just toss away on the course at bottle exchanges.

  • what Rich said.

Bottom line, no matter how hot it is, you need to get fluids in and heat out. There are some great posts about racing in HOT weather in the old forums.

    Good luck!!
