Week 12 AZIM

Hi Coach P,

I have a wedding in Berkeley, CA next weekend and will be out of town thurs am-sunday afternoon.  The one thing that won't happen is one of the weekend rides. I did week 11 BTD today and it went very well.  4 hours on the AZIM course, two loops of 31 miles (skipped the 3 mile loop back into Tempe due to traffic) with an extra loop to round out four hours. Nutrition was spot on and I actually felt on course for a 6 hour bike, IF 7.33.   Negative split the run in 97 degree heat.  Did the swim after as I wanted to not get a late start due to heat.  I feel great.

Here's my tweak:  I am going to ride tomorrow with my group-a 3 hr APB ride.  Mon, tues, wed as planned.  Thursday before I leave do the swim test.  Friday, my missed day off (bonus SAU as on vacation with hubby and wedding is that night).  Saturday run test in cool Berkeley weather (2nd bonus as honestly I was going to skip the run test as its still  just too hot here, and i see no point doing it on a treadmill when I've always run outside.  And if i could actually run a marathon at my predicted now I would be thrilled, and I have been easily hitting all my paces).  Sunday after I return I will ride on the trainer, do saturday's ride.  So I really an not missing anything, but digging any holes??

  • I have another question. It seems the big bike days have changed weeks this year. There is a group, excel coaching, that puts on a supported ride the last sat in sept and Oct. ($20/ride-3 stops with water and nutrition) as well as driver looking for flats. Lots of riders out there. It fit in perfectly with the schedule last year. This year each ride is two weeks ahead of the plan.
How big of a deal is it to do the big rides in week 13 and 17 instead of week 15 and 18?
  • @Betsy, I think I am going to nominate you to run this Micro Forum for me....your choices are MOST EXCELLENT!! My only caveat would be doing too much on Sunday night, so if you wake up tired on Monday, just take the day off!!!
  • Coach P, thanks again for the support! Don't encourage me to skip a Monday swim-I'm only to willing to do so!!

And Could you please address my other question about week 15 and 18 hundred mile ride? We want to do the locally supported beeline rides by 'Excel and Beyond' which have always been week 13 and 17. Any problem with that?
    Thanks
    Betsy
  • @Betsy, sorry for not being specific, those rides are fine!!!
