Training question

I have been in Colorado for 4 weeks now (transplanted from FL)  Ironman Coz is 78 days away.  As I recall from previous IM training (not with EN) I was doing more mileage on my long rides mainly because I lived in FL where it was flat.  4 hour flat ride for me equates to more mileage.  My question is should I be concerned that my 4 hours rides in CO produces less miles?  My rides have significant elevation gains which obviously slows me down.  I'm assuming that ride time is more important than miles especially since I will be competing on flat terrain...however, I'm can't help but worry about not actually getting 110 miles in on my long rides.

  • I meant to say I was worried about not getting more than 70 on my long rides? I accidentally typed 110.
  • @Kimberly, I hope you are safe with all the wet weather out there!!! I think that the effort (aka work done) is more important than time / distance. You will be stronger (hills + altitude) than your former self. That said, it would be "nice" to plan out a Race Rehearsal route on a flattish course (28 mile loop x 4? 20 mile loop done 5 times?) that will give you the confidence you need, etc.

My biggest concern with climbs and descents is reduced time in your aerobars...the positional fitness stuff...so do your best to use those when it's safe!
  • Thanks Patrick....I had the same aero bar concern so I started doing at least one of my training rides on my trainers so that I can place focus on aero position. I appreciate the feedback.
