Short Course 16-22 September
Not sure who is still training for a triathlon in this forum, but I have still one on 29 September. This is my last one of the year and it is also the Texas State Intermediate Distance (Olympic) Championship!
It is also my annual race against my Cajun buddy from New Orleans. we have been meeting at least once a year since 1996 to racre somewhere in the US at some distance from sprint to IM. He has won the last four years and I mean to win this year!
Last year at this point, I was peaking for a race with him. However, in the GF Week #7, I injured myself doing the "bounding drills" on Tuesday.
So, for everyone else just training, the next OS begins 28 Oct according to RnP in the last Newsletter! Hope you are recovering and having fun with all this fitness you've earned!

So speaking of the OS,what's everyone got planned for'14? Here's what I know... Oct 12 half Mary, then more run focus while keeping some biking, for fun and maintaining as much FTP as I can without official training. Jan OS, June Rev3 Quassy Half, IMLP camp (doing Placid in '15) then short course for the balance of the season, I think. Maybe another late season half, like Timberman. Main goal is to ramp back up to Full IM, get better with hills, and get faster so I'm not cutting iMLP too close, like my first. (IMFL in 16:29 in nov. 12). Any thoughts?

Garmin to follow. New demo saddle set coming soon probably going to be bike focused after I get that dialed in.
So does everyone go to the OS forum if that's the next training block?
@WJ - if the tri season is over, hang up the bike. Just remember the pain cave awaits. Dark, cold mornings at 0500 knocking out whatever madness awaits in the OS. Send the bike (s) in for an overhaul and check up on them in a week or so. That's my plan right after my last tri on 29 Sept!
@Kim - NOV OS, then maybe EN Rally in Tucson, break, run focus, big bike week, SC (USAT Nat'l maybe to compete in SC), then a late season HIM (Austin 70.3). Then volunteer at IMFLA so I can get in 2015. My plan isn't much different in the macro than yours!
Warmup. 1 mi 6:58, 2 min, 1 mi 6:24, 4 min, 1 mi 6:53, 2.5 min, 1 mi 6:25. Ran to fill 65 min and 8.7 mi.
Joe, I thimk I'm going to do that new "balanced HIM" plan for a while...one interval bike, 4-5 run and a couple swims. It only has one swim, but I'll probably add one or two. I know that's heresy around here, but keeping it up is the only way I've been able to improve my swim.
Sunday's Du officially marks the end of my season - hate to see it go but I'm ready for a break.
Next year will also be SC focused - looking to improve some in all three but more so on the run.
Speaking of runs - here is the results link to last weekends ITU World Championship held in London. There is a guy in my AG (60-64) that finished 6th who ran a 17:28 5K

17:28...that's fast!
This week has been hell at work. Monday, no time for anything but a half hour swim. Tuesday, the run above.
Wednesday was another shortened, but very intense bike. My FTP at connect hasn't been adjusted down,
Thursday, though, I got in a good run. Feeling a little bit back in the game. Thunderstorms outside, so I ran on the indoor track. 3 x 1 mi at 6:22 6:15 6:22. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/378307604 The last one hurt... And then I shuffled along to fill out about 8.4 miles. Fortunately, my indoor calibration has held up. (the track is measured, so I know the distances on the Garmin are right.)
Today, flying out to a meeting. It'll be nothing or a short run. Hope to run early Saturday morning before the meeting starts again.
So today was supposed to be 4 X 500m. I was a little pressed for time at lunch and really did not want to do that, so instead I did a 2000m straight with the goal only of negative splits. I did a 8:38; 8:27; 8:20; 8:16 for a 33:41 and good enough for my #10 best time at that distance in this pool!
So, looks like I am drainer bound for tomorrow and will have to put up with the rare big rain event we are about to have!
joe- nice swim! sometimes u just gotta do what u can with what time u have.
Big slug this week. Ran 3x 1 mi tues night with the wife then had to travel wed-thurs. tomorrow is long run then I will do something on some kind of bike sun.
So based on this, what would a good target pace be for me on race day? I don't want to sell myself short, but I don't want to push too hard, ESP early on and blow up. Any thoughts from the "real runners" out there?

I think mile 6 got screwed up because I lost satellites going under an overpass and I think overall, it may have been a minute or so less than garmin showed. Take note of the paces and terrain. Able to hit 10's when the trail was a de,one, but slow down quite a bit with just a slight incline. Half Mary is fairly flat, with a couple hills.
Not having the bike workout before and some rest days might be something to remember during taper week!
Slept in todya til 8:45. i was beat yest but no time for a nap so i got in a good 9+ hrs. 23 mi on the road bike (no power). Since it was a route I have done before, I compared it to previous rides on the tri bike with power and based on my avg speed, I'd say it was about .80IF.
