Post IM fatigue

It has been 3 weeks since I finished my first IM in Canada.
And I am always tired. I go to bed early and if I don't work, I
can sleep 12 hours easily. I want to take naps! Is this normal
so far out? I don't feel motivated to exercise. I do so (but rarely)
out of fear I will lose fitness and get Phat. But love it when i am in the middle of
the exercise. Great when i am done. Missing it. Do I need a goal? I felt
better when I was exercising everyday with 2 disciplines! Ugh

  • Some people find that without a goal it's hard to motivate to get out there. I'm moving this to the General Discussion so you'll get more input from the members.
  • Completely normal. Your body is recovering from all the abuse you forced on it. When do you start the OS, November or January? Use the post season to do some unstructured training ( mountain biking, trail running, paddle boarding, functional strength training etc). Spend time with friends, significant other. Goal of post season is to allow yourself to recover both mentally and physicall so you'll be ready for OS.
  • sounds normal.

if continues, consider seeing your doc.

i had three irons last year.    two irons this year.   this is my first significant break in two years.   I am feeling similarly.           i am buidling a plan for some directed swimming training.       and cyclocross racing.       then hit the OutSeason in November.         Personally I do need a plan.

  • Sounds more mental than physical. Even scheduling a 5K in 6 weeks time may be enough to get you out the door on a regular basis. And/or you do what I tried last two falls... Try to swim 50 miles/ kilometers in 50 days. Find a trail to hike; explore the rugged parts of a city...
