What speed suits are Kona legal?

I don't own a speed suit, but I have an out-of-state friend who has two and is willing to lend them. One is an Orca that is rubber, so I know that is illegal for Kona. The other is a Blue Seventy, but she doesn't know the model name. The tag says it is 75% nylon and 25% PU-CR. The tag has this on it: S/C*B-080213PZUS. The information and lists of legal suits that I find online are confusing. It seems like the USAT allows suits the WTC doesn't allow.

Does anyone know if this particular Blue Seventy would be legal? I would like to use a speed suit for Kona.

  • Yes, USAT still allows the 1st Generation Skinsuits (aka my old Xterra .02 which I will be using this Sunday), but WTC allows only 2nd Generation Skinsuits (aka my Blue Seventy PZ3TX). The key is that a WTC legal skinsuit must be TEXTILE only. It can't have any rubber, neoprene or anything that is buoyant. 1st Gen suits are faster due to the buoyancy. 2nd Gen suits are still better than nothing but don't have as much advantage. They work using compression (they should fit very tightly) and using materials that don't hold or actually repel water (hydophobic). The old Blue Seventy .03 is a 1st Gen suit. The 2nd Generation PZ3TX indicates TX for TEXTILE.
