Steven C's Micro Thread

I'm in week 17 of the advanced half iron plan and ran into an issue where my bike is in the shop for a few days.  Long story but i'm waiting on a replacement part and the bike is broken down at the shop.

I was planning on getting the 3 hour ride in Saturday and 2 hour ride in Sunday but it looks like I'll have to substitute or shuffle my schedule.  I am thinking I could get some of those hours in at a spin class and get close to the recommended workouts.  Should I do this this or shuffle my schedule until i get my ride back?

  • @Steve, do what you can on the weekend...but don't slaughter yourself in the gym...too bad your bike shop doesn't have a loaner program. image If the spin bike is too much, consider mixing it up with the treadmill, doing 45' bike, 15' run, etc. I am looking for TOTAL AEROBIC TIME here, not so much specificity of discipline, etc.

Hope the bike gets back soon!
  • Thanks coach, I ended up doing a 30 minute run plus 70 on a spin bike with 2x20's at zone 4. I'll probably add a longer run today and another short bike. I'll still be able to get in several long rides the next few weeks so I think I'm good.
  • Coach,
I'm in week 6 of the get faster plan (building up for CDA) and have the Atlanta Publix half marathon on Sunday. I was planning on just training through this week and weekend as the schedule reads and use the half as my Sunday run but probably with more intensity. Does that sound like a good strategy? Btw, i'm liking the get faster plan this time around...I should have done this last year!
  • @Steven, sorry I missed this due to my trip....how was the race?
  • Well, I ended up getting a PR in the race by 3 minutes and finished in 1:41:36! I even did the get faster bike 2:30 hour bike session the day before so no complaints here coach. It looks like the speed work is paying off and my vdot bumped up another notch.
  • W.O.W. image Nice job!!!!
