challenge atlantic city.

my interest is that i have family from the area and i was actually born there.      moved when 2 years old to hawaii.

probably would like to do it someday but kona trying for now.

actually seems like a pretty neat course.          atlantic city is on a barrier island.   so the swim is in marsh between island and the mainland.   despite the description, the swim should be fun.     the bike includes a lot on a major highway that will be closed down.      and some nice country riding through farm country.      the run should be a hoot.     entirely on the the wood boardwalk, i think.

atlantic city itself is interesting.    lots of casinos.   and still lots of ghetto type areas outside of the casinos.   be a bit careful where you stay.     the ocean is right there off the boardwork.          and access to great beaches north and south of atlantic city.

south jersey is a neat area overall.       if you don't know the area, it is NOT north jersey.       so i would encourage other folks to give the race a shot.       should be an interesting, fun, flat, and often pretty course.      you might even be able to stay with mama sarner in Absecon nearby if you need.        also i have an odd aunt that might be able to put you up in Brigantine, island right next to Atlantic City.

  • With the exception of the bike course that is on the AC expressway, the ride should be nice on roads were you will find some shade at the right times of the morning. A really nice area to ride. I am signed up for Lake Placid in 2014, which is 5 weeks after this....maybe another year, but I really hope that this becomes a successful event in Atlantic City.
  • I live on Absecon Island, where Atlantic City is and train in and around this area. This course is an extension of the AC international Triathlon with a second loop on the swim. The Bay is very nice which is well protected and temps can vary but will probably be about 70. The first 28 and last 28 will be on the smooth AC expressway. No hills but we always have some wind. This could get boring but on the way out it is broken up by a trip off the highway for a few miles and then back on. The way back will be counting the mile markers and looking at bill boards and then the city scape of the casinos. The loop off the expressway as John said is beautiful roads through the pine barrens which are also very flat.
The run will first head into the community of Ventnor and then loop to the boardwalk where the runs goes about 6miles and then off the boardwalk to the Marina District(Harrah's and Borgata and multilane road) to the Brigantine Bridge. Over and back and then to the boardwalk again to finish.
If anyone has questions just ask. While it doesn't fit in my schedule, I signed up anyway. I would love to do it and may try to make it work. Though, I might switch to relay or cancel. It may be a day before decision as I live about three miles from the start and the southern end of the boardwalk is a mile from my house.
  • This race has generated considerable interest in my little corner of atlantic canada, and several members of my local club plan to go.  I guess it helps that we also have a local Challenge event (the inaugural Challenge St. Andrews- half iron and sprint tri).  AC is definitely on my radar for 2015!
