Gene Pish Ironman Wisconsin - 2013 race report
This is going to be a very short race report for Ironman Wisconsin 2013. I am not the fastest, nor the slowest racer out there. However, I feel pretty confident to say that I am probably one of the happiest. I raced IMWI in 2011; which was my first 140.6 distance, under the coaching of RnP and EN. That was a good race for me, and I met all of my goals and felt that I executed very well. For 2013, my main goals were to enjoy the ENTIRE race experience, and once again execute my plan.
I am very pleased to report that I was able to meet all of my goals. I had an incredible time the whole weekend, and the race was the icing on the cake. The swim started off "interesting" with the wind and all, but I just stayed in my "box" and had fun overcoming the challenge. Although I was 12 minutes slower than 2011, I was pleased to "overcome" the less than ideal conditions. Executed my plan on the bike, and ended up being 18 minutes faster than 2011. The run was great. My main goal is always to RUN the entire marathon, and only walk my 25 steps during the aid stations. Mission accomplished.... felt great the entire run and was 21 minutes faster than 2011.
So at the end of the day, I had a wonderful experience, ran the entire marathon, and ended up 27 minutes faster than 2011. Details show that I passed 205 people on the bike, and 331 on the run.
My motto is now... 2 years older, and 27 minutes faster!
The biggest compliment that I can give RnP is that there were really NO surprises during my race. As I said, I am certainly not the fastest.... but I have a real high level of confidence in my ability to execute MY race. Executed as planned... and had a wonderful time! The EN mojo on the entire racecourse.... from EN member and non-members... was incredible! Thanks everyone!!
