Hardbeck, 2014

Hey Rich,

Just sent in the survey.  I plan on staying very flexible next year with short course racing.  Olympic dist x 3.  Wanted to see if you had any thoughts on a couple of questions I have.

My first thought is that I think I'm going to stick the the Pain Cave for almost all of my weekday workouts.  But, I'd really like to stretch out some longer workouts on the weekends cuz I likes to ride.  3-4 hours is the norm around here.  Since I'm racing short, would it be plan sabotage to continue doing longer stuff on the weekends?

Also, I really want to dive into my running next year.  I know, I know, that my failed run at Wisc was because of my poor execution on the bike.  That's one of the things that I will continue to give attention to on those longer rides mentioned above.  But, I've always avoided going heavy into a weakness like my run and now I'm ready to do that.  I think I've maxed out around 25mi/week over the last 2 years and I'm getting this angry itch that asks 'What might happen if we slowly build that up to 40-50mi/week?'.   What are your thoughts on that?

And, I'm losing weight.  If people start insisting that I go to the doctor cuz I lose another 10lbs, I'm going to refer them to you to back me up.

The '14 shorter races and longer runs and bikes and to patiently build a base for a (I know you're gonna shake your head at this..) 2015 Ironman.

Go ahead, lemme have it...

  • Chris,

Thanks for the detail, I give you my notes today in my screencast when I do your SP later.

  • Rich,

Wondering if I need to re'submit a Season Planning Survey for 2014...

Been in the Nov OS, doing strong work as prescribed for the bike. My injury (achilles/calf) has cost me 6 weeks of running. Been running 2x week in the pool and now up to 2x week on land, consisting of 1 ez run and 1 run with tempo 400s or 800s. Paces are better than before but endurance lacking. Was planning on a run test about week 8 of this OS.

Since I don't have any big A races next year, should I just continue on with what you sent me in Oct or rresubmit a survey.

The only thing that's changed for goal days is a tough century, Assault on Mt. Mitchell, lots of vertical.

    Continue on or resubmit?
  • Yes, please resubmit. Thanks.
