Austin 70.3 - 2013
Didn't see a better place to put this as it's not summer anymore, but it will probably feel like it in Austin.
So any EN peeps looking to talk about the race, logistics, training or a possible meet up in Austin this is the thread to do it.

I'm in for this one too. Did it last year too, as my first HIM. Was amazingly cool (cold). At swim start, it was 42 degrees. Water was balmy in the 70's though! Felt great in the water. Bike was cool. Run was perfect...mid 60's. Doubt we'll see that again anytime soon, though. Be prepared for hot...or cold!
I will be in an EN kit on race day and I'll be happy to flash the EN gang symbol to any other EN participant I see on the course.
I'll be in EN tri top/visor and/or EN jacket (last year I needed a jacket on the bike for sure).
Hmm.. I didn't even consider that it might be cold. I will bring arm warmers I guess. Any other suggestions for a first timer? This will actually be my first time in Texas!
Peter, Look at my post earlier in this forum....it was COLD last year. I think that was an anomaly, but you never know in Texas that time of year. Better safe than freezing.....or trust the forecast?
My last tri of 2013 is THIS weekend, here in Dallas, Dallas Lifetime (used to be called the US Open).
I'll probably drive up to watch some of the race. Last year there were several flat tires due to thorns in the grass in T1. Not sure if it will still be a problem but its something to watch out for.
Peter,
I don't have any inside knowledge, and from what I read it is sometimes wetsuit legal and sometimes not.
Last year it was wetsuit legal (which was huge since it was 42 degrees and I was cold before getting in the water even in my wetsuit), for whatever that's worth. It's not a tough swim though. It was cool enough even days before the race that it was really not even a concern.
But, it's Texas, so if it's 90 all week, may have to do without it.
So bring your wetsuit, but don't expect to wear it.
Overall, at least up here in North TX, it's been a more mild summer, but it's still TX - weather is always a factor!
My point is...Prepare for the worst, hope for the best!
I read over your race report. You mentioned having problems with the sun. In Austin the swim starts by heading directly into the sun rising in the east. If you can follow the pack until the first turn (left/West) you should be just fine.
Thanks for the advice. I think all my problems are in my head and the more I anticipate what is going to happen the better I should do!
