Don't worry, you won't find me jumping ANYTHING for a very long time, if ever . I did some technical, rocky single track last week, with some step ups, step downs, etc.

There are some very significant differences between mtn biking and dirt biking (duh):

    1. Low speed handling, shifting your weight to steer the bike and maintain balance is very similar.
    2. Uphill, especially rocky, are where you really miss 570cc . I have to admit I did a lot of hikabike to get over stuff. I just didn't see anyway to pedal through this stuff without having first gotten up a lot of speed and momentum to help me roll over obstacles. Many times dirtbiking is just hitting something with a bit of speed = momentum and just letting the bike do it's thing, via crazy good suspension, momentum, and power.
    3. Rocky downhills and steps are similar. I understand and get the technique of unloading the suspension and just letting the bike roll over stuff. But me + bicycle lacks the momentum that the motorcycle + me momentum uses to solve a lot of problems.
    4. VERY nice to be able to say "fuggit, I can't get over/down/around that. Time to get off the bike and just carry it through this section." That's not really an option on a moto and it can make for a SERIOUS workout if you are dropping the bike in gnarly terrain.

Overall, the bicycle is just far more twitchy in all situations than the motorcycle. And that's a good thing, for now, because this awareness keeps me safe.
