Heart rate monitors

Hi all!

I was looking for a heart rate monitor recommendation.  Still be fairly new to this sport, I have had to add to my gear slowly (as it is all so expensive!) I got a GPS watch last year for my running, but it doesn't have a heart rate monitor. I am new to EN but it seems that I will need a heart rate monitor to get the most out of the plans.  Does anyone have a recommendation for a heart rate monitor that isn't too expensive?  Any feedback is appreciated!! THANKS!!!

  • I have always used Polar brand HRM's.  They range in price and I always got the least expensive as I never use the advanced features.  All I wanted was time and heart rate.  Also, if you belong to a gym and will be doing some runs on a treadmill there, check to see if the are Polar enabled.  That way you can see your HR on the treadmill display.  If found that a nice perk.

    Welcome to the team!

  • I have the garmin heart rate monitor. I haven't had any problems with it. What kind of watch do you have?
  • Thank you for the info!! I really appreciate it and will def check out the Polar brand!

  • HI! I have the Garmin Forerunner 10. Should've stepped it up a notch, but it was a birthday present from my husband. image

  • The watch you have unfortunately doesn't support heart rate monitors. You will either need to get a new watch, or use your phone with a heart rate monitor. I used to have the Forerunner 10 as well. I upgraded to the 910xt.
  • I will have to look into that. Thank you for the information though! Really appreciate it! I tell ya...so much gear so much gear! image

Welcome to triathlon.  Open up your checkbook.

  • A great resource to learn about all this stuff is from DC Rainmaker. He has a super in depth site where he reviews all the triathlon gear.
  • Thank you! Just checked out that site...tons of info!
