John Moran's Micro Thread

Hi-

question about run durability plan for Sunday runs- it says 70 mins @GRP.  My HIM is in June and my GRP then is my current Z4 pace (or faster)- I could probably do 70 mins at Z4, but it would beat me up for a few days, which I assume isn't the goal.

thanks- John

  • John , GRP for a 70.3 is Zone2 on the EN scale, not Zone 4. Zone 4 is for Olympics only. My apologies for the confusion on that portion of the RDP. I clearly need to update the explanation to give specific HIM guidance...that said, even Zone 2 effort can be costly....be careful!
  • Thanks for the info, I just didn't know when it said run as long as you can at your GRP, whether that meant "even if that isn't Z2, if that's your goal pace in the future, do as much at that pace as you can now".

Also noticed your location- greetings from a fellow Rhode Islander! I'm in NK now, but used to live in Riverside and run down through Barrington on the East Bay bike path all the time. Very pretty area.
  • @John, I smell a coffee meet up!!! I am still "fairly" new to RI but have quickly adapted the "everywhere else is too far away from here" mentality...but seriously, we should try to connect!
  • That would be great!  I'm not a native either, have been here a little over 10 years, which makes me an outsider still :)   We kept the same dentist/doctor for our kids from when we lived in Riverside and now when I drive them 25 minutes from NK to their appointments, native RI-ers shake their heads in confusion wondering why I drive clear across the state instead of finding something closer, and I tell them I'm originally from Maine and 25 minutes away IS close! :)
  • I still drive to my dentist in Boston. image I get a LOT of strange looks from da locals!! image
  • Coach Patrick-

I have a question about rearranging this week's workouts-- I am already swapping sat/sun workouts because of a 5k race on Saturday. The
additional issue I have is I will not be able to bike on Thursday. It just doesn't work with the Thanksgiving day schedule I have. I don't want to
be doing anything but rest on Friday before 5k, so I have two choices- 1) just skip the Thursday bike completely or 2) do the Thursday bike
on Wednesday in addition to the Weds run. Tell me what to do and I will do it!

    thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!
    John
  • @John- I say that you double down on the bike Tues/Wed and then a light jog on either Thurs or Fri...30 mins max. Then your weekend. Happy Turkey!
  • aye aye! Happy Turkey Day to you too!
