Jonathan Meek - 2014 Season

Starting my 'Macro' board for discussion.

Since deciding to continue the '7-day' and officially join the team, I decided to switch my main Ironman race to 2014 Lake Tahoe. Rich, not dire urgency here but can you rebuild my season plan reflecting Tahoe as my main race? Can you include the EN Tahoe Camp on the calendar and help me zero in on a 70.3 race to do prior to the IM?

There is a good looking long course race up here called the Auburn Triathlon (worlds toughest half) that looks like it could be a great race with lots of bike climbing. It's May 18, 2014. (www.auburntriathlon.com). Is there an ideal time (week's ahead) of the IM I should aim for?

Cheers~

  • JM,
I just did your new SP for you but didn't read this post first. Auburn would be good timing but I'm making Wildflower a key race for the team. That's the first weekend of May. Details for the Tahoe camp are under the Camps tab at the top of this page.
  • Great. I'll look at either of those two races then. I'll let you know once I have a confirmed race so you don't have additional rework in the Season Plan.

    Thank you sir.

  • Alright coach, I decided to do Auburn on May 18. Can you restructure my season to reflect?

    Thanks!

Ok, great. You're good for now so just circle back to me in January, taking the Season Planning Survey and redo your SP at that time.

  • *AS INFO* for later reference and discussion in the year

    OS W1 Tests:

    Bike - 20' Test - FTP 201

    Run - 5k Test - 22:41 (vDOT 42) *also a new PR at 5k, off to a good start*

Body's feeling good and nutrition is dialed in (90% paleo, but will never give up vino). Thx Coach.

  • Hey Coach. Looking at adding a few more races and wanted to get your thoughts. Should I add another 70.3 race? if so, when would be ideal given my current schedule?

Oakland Triathlon is August 31. That's a month out from Tahoe. Could I still do the Olympic distance race?

Given Auburn May 18, when's the latest I could get a race in before & how soon after?

I would prefer you not race anything within 6-7wks of IMLT. That is prime IM-specific volume, race rehearsals, etc time.

  • Hey Coach;

Hope all is well. Just wanted the W12 video of you discussing the rest of the season post OS and have a quick question. You mentioned the importance of going from the OS into a Single Sport 8week plan, then into the A Race Plan. Right now you have my season roadmap going from the OS > Swim Camp > HIM for my May 18 race in Auburn.

I'm getting great results thus far in the OS. Should I stick with what you've got listed above? or should/could I do a shortened single sport focus then transition into the HIM?

Stick with the plan above. You just don't have much time between the end of your OS and when I need you to start the HIM plan. You're also in CA = good weather = the HIM is slightly better fit because you'll be able to take advantage of the cycling volume of the HIM plan.
