Matt Websters Micro Thread

Hi Coach Patrick.  It was great talking with you today.

I took your advice and signed up for Trainer Road so I can train with power without actually have a PM.

I plan on buying a PM in the December time frame.   Once I get it, do you recommend continuing to do the bike power test through the virtual power in Trainer Road during the OS or immediately start using the actual PM?   Does that make sense?  Thanks!

  • @Matt, great to chat as well. Once you have a powermeter, you will hook that up to TR and it will display your actual PM data there...even BETTER!!! image It's the only way to ride...
  • Hi Coach Rich. I was the one who asked about testing inside and using those numbers outside. I need to clairify my question. I will be testing both run and bike indoors but still plan to train outside on occasion (weekends, nice days, etc). Can I still use those indoor test numbers for the training outside this winter? Thanks!
  • I actually got my answer in the wiki- About a 10% difference.

Seperate question however. I will be using Trainer Road for the first couple weeks of November then starting with a Power Meter. Two questions on this actually-
    1. Can i use the same numbers from TR to the actual PM?
    2. Can i do my next test with the PM to see the gains from this first test with out?

    Thanks!
  • @Matt, when you have a Powermeter that will override the actual "virtual" power of TR...so you will see the data form your PM headset on the screen. I say that you DONT tell TR you have a PM for your first week of riding....and then just compare notes between TR and PM so you can SWAG it. Basically, there is a lag -- your PM shows power now but it won't show on TR for like 1-2 seconds...once you learn that you should be able to discern an average difference. Then in week 2 of PM time you can link your PM to TR and you should have a good sense of the numbers you should be seeing!!
  • Hey coach.   Looking at the EN bike calculator i see where you put in the FTP for the 20 min test but no place for the VO2?   Thanks!

  • Gold stars for Matt!! For the current time we don't have a manual Z5, just predicted. Know your VO2 and use that when applicable...it's on the list!
  • So, just to confirm- on the Z5 bike workouts I use my VO2 avg of 240 as my baseline at those 1.5min intervals? Thanks much!
  • Morning Coach!
I just came out of swim camp and starting up the 20 week HIM plan on week 11. It calls for a Big Day #2 for the weekend. Just want to check in to see if i should still do that as Im just entering the HIM plan or an alternative work out? Thanks!
  • @Matt, yes it's on the plan on purpose...do it to the best of your ability..it's not about effort, but endurance!!!!
  • Hey Coach Patrick. Im in the HIM plan for a race this Sat. The plan is for a Sun race. I couldnt find anything in the wiki about altering the plan based on weekend day. How should I alter the workouts this week? Thanks!
  • Matt, no worries...go to this wiki page:

    http://members.endurancenation.us/Resources/Wiki/tabid/91/Default.aspx?topic=Self-Coaching+Manual+-+DIY+Guide+for+Adjusting+You

And go to the section entitled: How To Insert A Race -- Race Week Templates

    good luck!!!
  • Hey Coach Patrick.  Question on a big bike week I want to do.   I can only take an extra day or two off from work for that week so I was thinking of doing a "medium" bike week. Can you take a look at what I was thinking about doing for my BBW in week 17 of my HIM Advanced Plan.   Let me know your thoughts or advice?  Thanks!

    Monday- Bike 30ish

Tuesday- Normal Tuesday Z4 Interval run

    Wednesday- Bike 30ish

    Thursday- Bike 75ish

    Friday-Off

    Sat- Hilly Century Ride

Sun- Do the Thursday RR Run OR Bike more instead?

  • Matt, that looks great! I think that you should do the RR run on Sunday, but know now it's more about nutrition and HR pacing than speed after that kind of week! If you want to / can swim on Friday, that you might find it a bit restorative.

After that week, monday is off or swim only...you won't feel "good" until like Thursday, so get the work done for time not intensity.
