2014 Season Planning

Hi Coach - You put together a season plan for me, but I would like to add a couple races and wanted your opinion on a couple others.

Your Season plan included IM Cabo (March 30) and Mont Tremblant (August 17) - I've already registered for those.

Today I registered for Raleigh 70.3 on June 1 (I have a ton of friends doing this race and really wanted to add it). Having listened to your webinar, I would like to add a few shorter races in the schedule.

What timeframe / distances would you suggest? An easy one for me is a local Olympic on Memorial Day weekend... not sure how that fits. Maybe a July Olympic? A late season 70.3?

Thanks,

Rich

  • Did I post this in the wrong forum?
  • Hey Rich,

Sorry I missed this. Pretty much anything you want to do works, as long as you avoid putting a short course race within 3wks before a goal HIM.
  • Coach Rich - I am thinking that I will add Cozumel (Nov 30) to the schedule above. How should I modify the above schedule to accommodate Cozumel?

    Please and thank you!

Nope, no need to modify the plan or even think about IMCoz until after IMMT. One IM at a time is enough

  • Coach R - Now I'm thinking about Cozumel.

I fought through broken foot on the way to IMMT. Overall, I felt pretty good about the race,,, now I would like to rest a little, then focus on improving my run significantly on the way to Cozumel.

What do you suggest I do plan wise?

    Thanks,

    Rich

  • Hey Rich,

Congrats on IMMT! Is your foot broken NOW? have you decided to race IMCoz? You're only a week out from IMMT so no need to jump into anything / specific training plan right now. You have time, but let me know about your foot.
  • Hi Coach - no I broke it June 12. Had about 3 and a half weeks of running leading into the race at MT. The second half of the run was every bit as hard as I expected it to be (first lap 2:10, second lap 2:20 - lol PR by a few minutes). I think it has healed well - I will just want to be careful with run volume for another month or so. It does not pose any issues for biking (Bike was PR by a lot at MT).

I am still in recovery mode from the race. Did a 3 mile jog last week just to get my heart rate up a little. Mentally I am better than I have ever been after an IM. I've loaded the Post IM Transition plan for now and will work my way towards following it - just need a little unstructured time for now.

My plan is to race IMCoz. Working through the logistics / bookings now. Will pull the trigger today or tomorrow.

Race is 96 days out... I was wondering if it would work to stick to a Run Focused Get Faster Plan for the first part of the training, then drop into the IM plan later. Just to provide some diversity to the training and to help build run speed (which needs the most work).

    IMMT - 11:52
    Swim: 1:20
    Bike: 5:48
    Run: 4:30

    Thanks!
  • Hi Coach - unless you object - I'm loading the Get Faster (Run Focused) Plan and will load the IM Plan later. Here is how I have amended your original season plan...
