Paris Marathon April 11 - Carry your own sponge?

John and I are heading to Paris to run the marathon on April 11.  I must say, it is pretty cool to get update emails in French.  Actually, this is a "business trip" for me.  I have a client who is running it as his first and writing a book about it.  http://www.26togo.com/ ; I'm his nutrition advisor.  :-)

Anyway, this was in the latest newsletter:

Sponges and refreshment points

On the Marathon route, you will find 7 refreshment points on each 5km.

On these points, there will be fresh water but no sponges. If you want to use a sponge on the race, you will be able to use your own sponge, given in your bag with the bib number.

"Use your won sponge"??? I can't imagine carrying a sponge 26.2 +- miles.  What are they thinking?

Good for a laugh though.

  • How cool, Penny! A sponge for 26.2 miles...no thanks. Will there be foie gras and duck confit at the finish line?
  • Oh I can imagine carrying it for 26.2 miles, what I can't imagin is wanting to dunk it into a barrel of water around mile 18 that 3000 other runners before me have already dunked their sweaty sponges into!!!! YUCK!

Have fun Penny and take lots of pics! I'm looking forward to reading all about it!
