Rich--I am doing first IM with IMAZ in 4 weeks. I've signed up for 2014 IMCdA June 29th and wondering if Wildflower 70.3 May 3 is too close to that race to have a strong performance at both?

If so, then I probably would look at a local 70.3 (Grand Coulee Dam) around Sep 21st.

Thanks,

Jason Brandt

No, WF is fine. I've done the WF/IMCDA double 3x, no problems, and it's even better now that IMCDA is a week later than back in the day.

  • Thank you Rich. Now to talk to my wife to see if she is up to making a weekend of wildflower, maybe some wine tasting the days following.
  • WF will be an EN key race for us. My local tri club will also be targeting the race so between EN and the Pasadena Tri Club we'll have quite a big presence in the campground = a VERY good time :-)
  • Rich--my season plan had me on run durability until January OS begins next week. Are there any elements of the durability plan that I am to carry forward or tweak to my season plan going forward. Saw a reference to this in the three year plan forum but wasn't sure so thought I would ask. Planning to do advanced OS and IM plan leading up to IMCdA. Thanks in advance for your reply.
  • Sorry, not sure what you mean by carry over elements of the RD plan into the OS?

Just follow the Season RoadMap below and you should be all set

  • Rich--Ok, sounds like no modifications needed. I apologize I was vague in describing where I was thinking there may have been some modifications needed. On the My Training Plan Weekly Resources section there are links to the video and podcast and also "Learn More about the Run Durability Program in the Wiki" which takes me to a Nov 2013 PDF on Long Term Marathon Improvement. It says after run durability to then make tweaks in the Out Season and IM lead up including 28 day run block and other tweaks. My question is if I should be following this document to make changes to my plans that you've outlined for me. I would like to take my IM time of 3:53 and get it below 3:45.

Ok, thanks for the detail. I've asked Patrick to hit these questions for you.

  • @Jason, bless your triathlete heart for reading our stuff!!! If you "qualify" for the program -- as in third IM year, etc -- then yes, you can follow it. The guidance is in the document on how to modify what the plan calls for. If you have questions, please hit me in the Micro Forum!!!
  • Rich--I just signed up for Wildflower Long Course. Does that warrant any season plan changes? Also, I signed up for camping Friday and Saturday night. Will there be a EN campsite or do we get assigned to a campsite when we come thru the gates?
    Thanks in advance, Jason Brandt

Cool, you'll dig Wildflower. Make these modifications to your SP:

    • Follow the OS plan through Wk8
    • On 3/3, load up the Swim camp plan to end on 3/16.
    • You'll do just Wk1 of swim camp, so I can have you do a week of drills before starting the HIM plan
    • On 3/10, load up the HIM plan to end on WF.
    • On 4/7, load up the IM plan to end on IMCDA, and you'll follow that to the race.

As we get closer to the race I'll circle up with my tri club, sending a big group to the race, and we'll sort out the EN + Pasadena Tri Club camping situation and location. Short answer is that WF doesn't work like that, with assigned spaces. You roll into the park and...anywhere you can find a place to camp = your spot . But my club will have a bunch of RV's, I'll have my trailer and we'll create at tent city of sorts where we can all be together. We'll publish where _that_ will be closer to the race.

  • Rich,

Thanks so much for your reply and stoked about wildflower.  Clarifying question, you mention to load HIM on 3/10 thru WF but then to load IM plan on 4/7 but wildflower isn't until May 3rd.  Just wanted to clarify if I follow HIM thru WF or switch to the IM plan on 4/7.

On 4/7 you're switching from the HIM plan to the IM plan.

  • Coach Rich. In week 12 of Outseason Advanced. End is coming up and then 2 weeks of swim camp. I've been swimming 2-3 per week throughout the outseason (despite plan saying not needed) so I was wondering if swim camp is still what I should do before dropping into HIM plan leading to St George.

Thanks in advance for your reply and hoping to see you at St George.

    Hey Jason,

Ok, sounds like you don't need the SC. Just drop into the HIM plan at the end of the OS. Yep, still planning to race IMSG, though my Nov and Dec in the OS were not what I wanted. Back in the saddle and training hard now, though not where I wanted to be in Jan. Is what it is.
