How do you measure VI?

I have an Edge 500 and do not see anything in the power menu that would give me VI. Is it possible to get this from the Edge in real time or is it only available after you upload the ride to some other software?

I don't think you can do it live as VI on the Garmin. When riding I display NP and Avg Pwr. They closer they are the better. You can also display Lap NP and Avg Pwr.

Paul, I have the same unit and as far as I know the answer is no to real time VI. But as VI is simply NP/avg. power, I just have those two metrics on the same data field and keep an eye on the difference. You get pretty good after a few rides at knowing what range you're in.

Thanks Dino and Steve, I guess I will have to set up a 2nd screen with those 2 metrics.
