Gearing on Road bike - 11x32 w/ standard
After IMLT the tri bike is going on hiatus for a while. I did Tahoe with a compact and 11x32 and am thinking of switching the rear deraileur to my roadie so I can run the 11x32 but my roadie has a standard on the front and I don't really feel like changing the front rings. Is there a benefit to this or should I change to a compact? I am running SRAM red crankset so I would only have to buy new rings.
Thanks

What cadences are you seeing when you come up here to climb in the SG's? Nothing up here really steeper than briefly sustained 8-9%. I think a 32t would over kill and the cadence gap on that 32-11 would drive you bat shit crazy on the bike path, etc.
I have a mtn bike rear DR + longer chain + a borrowed pie plate cassette from Sawiris that I keep in a glass case with the label "In the event of crazy steep/stoopid climbing ride, break glass."
That's the only time I use that setup.
I guess the question is will I still be able to spin faster or is it a moot point because of the standard?
32 is overkill for that stuff, for training. You may want to use it for those very long rides though, to save your legs.
