Wow. What an experience. Ready to rest up, get in better shape and put out more effort next year.
Swim - went faster than I thought that it would. Got beat up a bit but never felt panicked. Felt pretty good actually. There was so much congestion that all I can think that I could have done is seeded further up if I wanted to go faster. The swim was as fast as I had hoped for. I came out of the water 200 / 500 which for me is pretty darn good.
Bike - I rode easy. .67IF easy. I had my speed on my computer along with my NP and 30sec avg power. Next time I will leave speed off. I was going so much faster than I expected that I eased up a bit. To be honest, all I wanted out of my first IM was a time with an 11 at the start of it and it was clear that I would get that don was long as I didn't blow up so I didn't press. Crazy fast bike course. I need to push my FTP up over the winter though. Work to do work to do! I came off of the bike 155 / 500
Run - I jacked this up a bit but not nearly as bad as I could have. My LRP was 10:15. I had a 3:52 mary earlier in the year though and figured that 4:20 - to 4:30 was doable. I had biked easy so figured that I would head out at LRP and go from there. Only, I didn't actually do that. My first run split was in the low 9's. Then I saw another EN and told him that I was running too fast and that I needed to slow down. That helped. I backed off to LRP and let people run on past me. By 6mi in I had dropped into the 160's in my AG.
The suck came on early for me. like about mile 14. I am a cramper. So I carry pickle juice on marys because it seems to stop my cramps when they come on. I had one bottle on me and another in my special needs bag. Ran past special needs and didn't stop b/c I wasn't cramping, had a bottle on me and didn't want to carry another. Rookie mistake. Next time I will drink bottle 1 and grab #2 or carry them both. Because at mile 14, I cramped - right hamstring. Had to go to the pickle juice. Slowed down for a mile and it cleared. But now I had 11mi to go and nothing for another round of cramps. So I puttered along afraid to push. But by mile 16 or so I also knew that I was so far ahead of my time and even my super-secret-unspoken-goal-time (11:40) that as long as I coasted in I would have something that I could be proud of even if I never attempted another IM.
I will race IM COZ in december of 2014. I will be leaner, have a higher FTP and crack the top quarter of my AG.
Thanks to the gang in the IMFL forum for the guidance and to coach P for answering my endless questions about how to shave and extra second here or there.
See y'all at the races!

Great job Jimmy! How much pickle juice do you carry....4 oz flask? I'm not a cramper though (not enough muscle to cramp!). Just curious.
I seem to have hit a plateau over the past year though that I am not crazy about. I have had 3 important races in the past 12mos. An Oly where I ended up in the 29th percentily of my AG, a 70.3 where I came in at the 30th percentile of AG and then this IM where I again came in at the 30th percentile of AG.
I keep thinking that I will break through a bit if I keep at it.
I'm bummed we didn't get a chance to meet. But IM weekend is pretty hectic. It's a blur.
Good luck in Coz! I will be rooting for you.
