My Plan For Dominating the "EPC Endurance Challenge"
Thought I'd share this with the team because 1) Its a pretty cool thing to get your co-workers more active (with some friendly(?) competition) and 2) get some EN mojo to help me WIN!
So my boss's boss came up with this. He's got a similar challenge going on with his HS buddies and wanted to bring it to our company. (He's a runner and also happens to be super analytical)
Here's how it works. The challenge is based on swimming, biking and running. It has 4 components:
1) Total mileage (converted to run miles)
About 3 bike miles= 1 run mile
1 swim mile = about 4 run miles
2) Race mileage using same calculations
3) vdot change vs. last year (Best LY vs. best TY)
4) Overall- I have no idea how he calculates this. Some crazy formula/regression/weighting no doubt!
Current standings: I'm tied for 1st overall. I'm 4th for overall mileage (a couple of guys did IMs and HIMs this year which my wimpy short curse year can't compare to). I am in 2nd for race mileage and 1st for vdot.
Now here's where the competition comes in.... I'm in first across the board for women. BUT this woman just joined the challenge in Sept. and she only bikes and has some serious mileage. But still not as much as mine. BUT she musta biked over 400 miles in Oct. (almost double her avg. for the first 9months (WTF?) and now only 70 miles separates us! (I can tell you guys are all on the edge of your seats!) Now, I'm not usually all that competitive, mostly cuz I'm such a crap runner BUT in this case, where I have control, I WILL NOT be beat (at least by another female!) I will swim in the OS if I have to damnit! (Shhh, don't tell coaches) I don't want to be stupid either but doing some of the "extra time" in the OS WKOs would prob be a good thing.
Not sure if she trying to pass me or if she just bikes a crap-ton but the party's over! I had pretty low mileage Sept & Oct. (mostly running for HM) so now's the time to pick it up!
Anyway, that's the story. Stay tuned for the next installment early Dec!
Dec. 9 UPDATE- I have now secured my lead in the mileage category with no "reasonable" way the next person can catch me. I have a 160 mile lead. Also, the person I was tied for 1st overall with has dropped so I hold the #1 position alone, for now.
