2014 race options

Rich,

Already signed up for IMFL for next year( Nov. 1st) Debating whether to do Vineman full on July 26th or a local HIM which is on same day for next year. IMFL this year was first IM, felt NO soreness by Tue. and my mind has been expanded as far as being able to do two in one year. The "pros" of doing two in my mind is the experience, just not sure of timing, and if that is a good idea given that I really want to focus on IMFL.

2x IM's in one year is VERY tough, especially with the second one being IMFL, so late in the year, for a guy in IL. In my experience you'll have a very hard time ramping up again for IMFL. If it were me, I'd race the local HIM in July, splitting your season into 2-3 parts.

  • Sounds good Rich, thanks.
  • No problem. Good luck!
  • Rich, want to add a half marathon to 2014 schedule. The date is April 26th, which is the end of 2 weeks of swim focus, and right before start of HIM plan. I think it's perfect timing, especially to "put to the test" the outseason work. What do you think?

That's fine. However, you'll need to add half marathon-esque long run volume to the Sunday run that's schedule in the Swim Camp plan. I think I have a 60' run scheduled for Sundays, with 2x 1mi @ T-pace. Just turn that into ~90-100' run and you'll be fine.
